Puppies, like babies are cute for a reason. Nature gave them those chubby little bodies, curious eyes, and wobbly legs not just for appeal but so we would love them- even when they push our patience to the limit. Loving them isn't always easy. Here are some tips:
- Crate training is an excellent tool for house training
- Puppies need to relieve themselves after eating, waking up, playing, or becoming excited
- Get them to a veterinarian to be checked
- Have all members of your family handle the puppy
- People go though doors first, puppies second
- Groom your puppy daily. Pick her up. Examine her mouth, eyes, ears, feet and tail.
- Ignore the bad; reward the good
- Use your tone of voice- high pitches are play tones, low sharp tones are big barks
- Consistency in how rules are set and enforced is important- discipline does not need to be harsh
- Feed food without corn or corn by products
- Talk to your veterinarian about nutrition
- Follow your veterinarian’s vaccination schedule
- Soak their food as to not upset young bellies
- Keep a feeding schedule- Do not free feed….. If you know when it’s going in you know when it’s coming out
- Have plenty of proper chew toys
- And lastly, remember that you are creating the dog that you will live with for years so be careful what you reward!
