Puppies, like babies are cute for a reason.  Nature gave them those chubby little bodies, curious eyes, and wobbly legs not just for appeal but so we would love them- even when they push our patience to the limit.  Loving them isn't always easy.  Here are some tips:

  • Crate training is an excellent tool for house training

  • Puppies need to relieve themselves after eating, waking up, playing, or becoming excited

  • Get them to a veterinarian to be checked

  • Have all members of your family handle the puppy

  • People go though doors first, puppies second

  • Groom your puppy daily. Pick her up. Examine her mouth, eyes, ears, feet and tail.

  • Ignore the bad; reward the good

  • Use your tone of voice- high pitches are play tones, low sharp tones are big barks

  • Consistency in how rules are set and enforced is important- discipline does not need to be harsh

  • Feed food without corn or corn by products

  • Talk to your veterinarian about nutrition

  • Follow your veterinarian’s vaccination schedule

  • Spay and Neuter

  • Soak their food as to not upset young bellies

  • Keep a feeding schedule- Do not free feed….. If you know when it’s going in you know when it’s coming out

  • Have plenty of proper chew toys

  • And lastly, remember that you are creating the dog that you will live with for years so be careful what you reward!
